Brandon Sanderson Updates - STEELHEART Cover, THE RITHMATIST Excerpt

I'll cut through my normal chatter, y'all know Brandon Sanderson is my GodKing.  Y'all know I'm eagerly anticipating his three new novels (one hopes that Stormlight Archive Book 2 comes out this year).  Well today was Christmas 'cause two bits of information came out!

Firstly, the 'official' Steelheart cover.  I wrote about Steelheart (with a fake cover) nearly six months ago when I got the press release.  Regardless of the fact that the pretty image belongs to an actual band and has absolutely nothing to do with the storyline I thought it was pretty nifty.

EW, the lucky bastards, got to have the official cover reveal over at their site.

Now then...that's a different look!  Of course this is a different kind of book.
There are no heroes.

Every single person who manifested powers—we call them Epics—turned out to be evil.

Here, in the city once known as Chicago, an extraordinarily powerful Epic declared himself Emperor. Steelheart has the strength of ten men and can control the elements. It is said no bullet can harm him, no sword can split his skin, no explosion can burn him. He is invincible.

It has been ten years. We live our lives as best we can. Nobody fights back . . . nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans who spend their lives studying powerful Epics, finding their weaknesses, then assassinating them.

My name is David Charleston. I’m not one of the Reckoners, but I intend to join them. I have something they need. Something precious, something incredible. Not an object, but an experience. I know his secret.

I’ve seen Steelheart bleed.
So...kind of dystopian heroics?  Since he's already got my Fantasy Love of Particularity, why not add dystopia to the list?  Its a young adult, coming out from Delacorte this September.  That's only 9 months away.  I'm sure I'll be okay. I lie horribly

Especially since Tor.com released an early excerpt from his young adult release with them this May, The Rithmatist!  Complete with pretty pictures!  Oh my shiny stars this man and his magic systems!  In case you need it, here's the cover and general synopsis for The Rithmatist due out mid-May!

The Rithmatist is about a 14-year-old kid named Joel who wants desperately to be a Rithmatist. But he wasn’t Chosen, so he doesn’t have the ability to bring chalklings or Rithmatic lines to life. All he can do is watch as The Rithmatist students at Armedius Academy learn the mystical art that he would give anything to practice. Then Rithmatist students start disappearing, kidnapped from their rooms at night, leaving only trails of blood. Joel’s professor asks him to help investigate—putting Joel and his friend Melody on the trail of a discovery that could change Rithmatics—and their world—forever….
