Day 5: Worst Books of 2013
Ahahaha well I guess "Worst" is subjective right? Also I'm going by what I read, not necessarily what came out. I'm pulling from 2 stars and below.
2 Stars. You can read my full review here on Goodreads (complete with spoilers, so be warned), but the gist of why I had trouble with this book? While Grateful does eventually stand up for herself, it comes with the caveat of "This guy, you, everyone you love will probably die if you don't stay with him". Granted, its not the guy's fault exactly (its a previous incarnation of Grateful's actually), but I'm still kind of like "Umm..no?" Also Ghost sex. Creepy creepy ghost sex.
1 star. I might actually have some form of post traumatic stress disorder from this book. My review on Goodreads is here, with spoilers, but guys I can't pan this book enough if I tried. It was only after discussing it with a couple of other reviewers I noticed the similarities between it and "50 Shades of Gray" :eye roll:, but you know what? I completely agree insofar as the romance is concerned. I was genuinely interested in the Krinar (well at first) and had hopes that the book would go a different route.
1 star. My review is here on Goodreads. I had such high hopes for this book. I'm not entirely sure why, but at some point I had begun to believe this book was an answer to something. At any rate my main issue lay in the fact the author told us all these wonderful glorious things that were happening, but never showed any of it. In fact what we were shown was a lot of emo angst trauma negativity. No thanks.
1 star. I lied, THIS BOOK gave me PTSD. Basically at some point this author was like 'frak healthy normative relationships!' and told her hero to just keep paying the heroine more and more money to sleep with him, meanwhile said heroine was using that money to take care of her catatonic/comatose/vegetative (its never made clear which) ex boyfriend (she broke up with 5 years ago, roughly a year before she met the Rich Guy for their original fling) because his mother didn't want to handle the struggle alone. Or something. Yep. That's romance folks.
2 Stars. Now we come to the book that started my rage boiling and it didn't end for weeks. The first book (Griffin's Daughter) I actually enjoyed for the most part, though I had some issues with it that I hoped would be worked out in Books 2 and 3. They weren't. Book 2 (the one to the left) gave me NEW issues to rage over actually. Even thinking back now, a year ago, all I want to do is smack this book repeatedly until it begs forgiveness.
1 Star. Late addition to the list, but THIS...its not even a book. Its a 17 page outline of a book. Read my review, without lotta spoilers, on Goodreads here. Just. Avid at all costs.
So those are my 5 worst books. What's yours?
