PR Special Edition: Liv Rancourt!

Poisoned Rationality Special  Edition

Welcome to another Poisoned Rationality Special Edition! Today we have Liv Rancourt, author A Vampire's Deadly Delight discussing what makes VDD so different from other vampire novels.

SynopsisShe’s a quiet, unassuming bookstore owner by day, but by night...

Kristen has a deadly secret—when she smells a vampire, she turns into Jai, a beauti-licious babe who makes vamps permanently dead. To a vamp, Jai is like ambrosia. They can’t resist her. She uses this attraction, plus her super strength and her trusty blade, Mr. Sticky, to end their undead lives. The thrill of wearing miniskirts without worrying about cellulite stifles any qualms Kristen might have about killing the undead. Being Jai is the most fun she has ever had—until they come up against the one vampire Jai can’t kill. If he and Jai have a history, as he claims, Jai can’t remember it...or him.

But when her work catches the attention of some old enemies—who won’t hesitate to destroy Kristen if it also means the end of Jai—this vampire may be their only hope. Can Kristen and Jai learn to tell the difference between good and evil in time to defeat Jai’s ancient nemesis? Or will being Jai’s hostess cost Kristen more than just a little sleep?

Hello Vampires, Meet Jai
 By Liv Rancourt

I’d first like to thank Lexie from Poisoned Rationality for hosting this stop on my blog tour. I really
appreciate having the opportunity to come talk to your readers about A Vampire’s Deadly Delight.

You’re probably thinking, “Another book about vampires? Why?” Well, I’ll tell ya, I’ve certainly read
my fair share, and I agree that the world didn’t exactly need one more. But it bugs me that, except for
the zombie-like ones in The Passage, the vampires are nearly always super-sexy and the poor human
characters can’t keep their hands off of them. More often than not, the poor humans end up dead or
turned or something equally dramatic and awful. It just doesn’t seem fair.

About this time last year, I had a moment of inspiration. What if there was a character that vampires
couldn’t keep their hands off of, one who was as deadly to vampires as they are to humans? And what if
that character existed inside an ordinary woman, and like Spiderman, she’d only come out when there
was trouble? I answered those questions with Jai, a gorgeous brunette who, with her trusty blade Mr.
Sticky, has been the final death for many a vampire.

Jai’s alter ego, Kristen, doesn’t have the physical attributes that Jai has (busty bustline, legs for days,
perfect hair). She’s smart, though, and she’s as deadly with a one-liner as Jai is with Mr. Sticky. They
make a great team, but there wouldn’t be a plot if there wasn’t conflict, and things start to unravel
when they meet the one vampire Jai can’t kill. That left me with a new question. What consequences
does love have when you’re a beautiful killing machine?

One of the most challenging aspects of putting the story together was making sure that when it was
over, both Kristen and Jai were in a happy place. Creating duel heroines is an unconventional strategy
for a romance, and my first couple of attempts took them to some pretty strange places. In the final
version, though, lessons are learned and conflicts resolved and there are hugs and kisses all around.
Well, for most of the characters, anyway. Some of the vampires end up dead. But none of the good
ones.

So not only does A Vampire’s Deadly Delight mess around with the idea of the vampire as sexual
superhero, but it has an unconventional take on the romance genre. There are funny bits and sexy bits
and scary bits, in a whole big entertaining mix. Yes, it is ANOTHER vampire story, but with a difference
that I think you’ll like. Thanks for reading along.

Peace,
Liv
