PR Special Edition (46): Lisa Desrochers Guest Post + Giveaway!

Poisoned Rationality Special  Edition

Welcome to another Poisoned Rationality Special Edition!   Today we have Lisa Desrochers, author of the Personal Demons series!

Pay attention after the guest post for a chance to win a signed ARC!

Synopsis: Luc Cain was born and raised in Hell, but he isn’t feeling as demonic as usual lately—thanks to Frannie Cavanaugh and the unique power she never realized she had. But you can’t desert Hell without consequences, and suddenly Frannie and Luc find themselves targeted by the same demons who used to be Luc’s allies.

Left with few options, Frannie and Luc accept the protection of Heaven and one of its most powerful angels, Gabe. Unfortunately, Luc isn’t the only one affected by Frannie, and it isn’t long before Gabe realizes that being around her is too…tempting. Rather than risk losing his wings, he leaves Frannie and Luc under the protection of her recently-acquired guardian angel.

Which would be fine, but Gabe is barely out the door before an assortment of demons appears—and they’re not leaving without dragging Luc back to Hell with them. Hell won’t give up and Heaven won’t give in. Frannie’s guardian exercises all the power he has to keep them away, but the demons are willing to hurt anyone close to Frannie in order to get what they want. It will take everything she has and then some to stay out of Hell’s grasp.

And not everyone will get out of it alive.

Lisa on...MUSIC

Wow. Music. My favorite topic! And a great chance to give you a sneak peek at not only the Original Sin playlist, but an EXCLUSIVE peek at the Book 3 playlist as well. :p

I’m often asked if I have playlists for my books, and the truth is, my playlists turn into books. I start with the music. My playlist for each book is usually a couple of dozen songs, which I pare down to the 12-15 that were most instrumental and post them for all of you to enjoy. You can see the entire playlist for Personal Demons here. The full playlist for Original Sin will post on my blog next week :p

If there’s a song that brings strong emotion to the surface for me, I often see it play out in the lives of my characters. In the Personal Demons series, you can see the evolution of the characters by the song that embodies them in each of the books.

For example, Frannie.

In Personal Demons, Frannie struggles with her belief in a higher power throughout the book, and the song that embodies this struggle is You Found Me by The Fray. (Sidenote: If you read Personal Demons, you know that Frannie lives on Amistad Road, and the park she ends up in at the end of both PD and OS is on the corner of First and Amistad. Not a coincidence :p)

By Original Sin, she’s coming to grips with her new powers, but she can’t protect everyone she loves, and someone will pay the ultimate price. Her song from Original Sin is How to Save a Life by the Fray. (What can I say, she’s a Fray girl :p)

In book 3, her whole life changes. Her path isn’t as clear as she thought it was, and she needs to come to terms with her new responsibilities…and her feelings. The song that most embodies her struggles in book 3 is Show Me a Sign by Breaking Benjamin.

Next we have my most conflicted character: Gabe.

In Personal Demons, Gabe finds himself in a position he’s never been in before: questioning his purpose. With Frannie, the lines between duty and desire blur, and he struggles with basic questions of love and loyalty. The song that embodies this is Breathe by Ryan Star.

Things for Gabe step up a notch in Original Sin. There’s a sub-current of desperation in everything he does. He vows to always be there for Frannie, no matter what, but what if keeping that promise means risking everything? His song from this book is Breaking Benjamin’s Anthem of the Angels

And, by book 3, Gabe discovers that temptations of the flesh are a tricky thing. Once they wax, it’s hard to make them wane. Dear Agony by Breaking Benjamin embodies Gabe’s struggle between duty and desire.

And, then there’s Luc.

He is the most “changed” character in Personal Demons. He finds out that nothing is as clear cut as he thought. From nearly the moment he and Frannie meet, she makes him feel things. Things demons aren’t supposed to be able to feel. Things he can’t even begin to understand or articulate. But things that make him question everything that he is, nonetheless. The song that embodies his change in Personal Demons is Savin’ Me by Nickelback.

Things don’t go smoothly for Luc in Original Sin. That’s all I’m gonna say about that. Unfortunately for Luc, his experience in OS is perfectly summarized in the music and lyrics to World So Cold by Three Days Grace.

And, in book 3, he has some tough decisions to make. He loves Frannie with everything that he is, but he knows he’s made some mistakes that she’ll never be able to forgive him for. His song in book 3 is Rewind by Pillar.

And, there's your musical sneak peek at the rest of the Personal Demons series! If you love any of the songs, please visit your chosen mode of music purchase and buy them! We need to support the artists so they'll make more amazing music =)
